How to keep sliding door locks working smoothly

Sliding door locks often feel faulty when the door is dragging, the track is dirty, or the latch is no longer lining up with the keeper.

Dirt in the track can stop the door from closing fully. If the door is not seated properly, the latch may not line up with the lock receiver.

Roller wear and frame movement can change the door position over time. Adjustment may restore smooth locking if the hardware is otherwise sound.

If the handle is loose, the key is rough, or the latch no longer holds consistently, replacement may be more reliable than repeated adjustment.
